Christian Living: How to live like Jesus

6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
10 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
13 Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work:
14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
18 Neither shalt thou commits adultery.
19 Neither shalt thou steal.
20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.
21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbor’s.”

God gave us these commandments, and we must do our best to obey them to please God and have his blessings. All of us have sinned, but that doesn’t mean we don’t try our best to please our Heavenly Father. After we sin, we need to repent of our sins and God will forgive us. If you are struggling with a sin and you just can’t seem to stop doing the same sin or sins over and over, make a list of the sins you struggle with. If you make a list of your sins and make a goal to stop sinning as much as humanly possible, keeping track of your progress will help motivate you to stop sinning. Every time you look at that list and see the sins and the progress you have made it will keep you motivated to be the best Christian you can be.

Seeing the times you have fallen short will also remind you how you felt after signing, which will motivate you to avoid that sin and the feelings associated with it. Christ died for us so let’s show him how much we love him by doing our best to live our lives as he lived his.

When you make your list, start by thinking about your biggest, habitual, fleshly weakness. Be completely honest with yourself. If your greatest habitual sin is cursing, admit it. The first step to overcoming the sin is to admit you do it. Admit that you curse, even if you only do it when you’re alone or in your head. Physically write down your goal: Stop swearing. Remember you must admit that you curse.

In 1 John 1:8-10, the Bible tells us if we say we have no sins the truth is not in us and we deceive ourselves. If we confess our sins, God will forgive our sins and cleanse us. And if we say we have no sins we make God a liar, and his Word is not in us.

To a non-Christian writing down our sins sounds rediculous, but to us Christians this is how serious we take Christianity. We believe in our God, have faith in our God, and love him forever. The last thing we want to do is sin and upset our Heavenly Father. So you want to be like Jesus? You must have FAITH.

In Matthew 17:18, Jesus rebuked an evil spirit from a child and he was cured. Then in Matthew 17:19, the disciples asked Jesus why they couldn’t cast out the evil spirit and Jesus said they couldn’t cast out the evil spirit because of their unbelief, and if they have faith the size of a mustard seed nothing will be impossible (Matthew 17:20). Without faith, it is impossible to please God. If you want God in your life you must believe he exists (Hebrews 11:6).

So how much faith do you have? Are you willing to trust in Jesus no matter what, and believe God will always show you a way out? 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that the temptations we go through happen to everyone, and there will always be a way out. There will always be a way out when times are hard. Do you trust God enough to believe that? Hebrews 11:1 tells us having faith is being sure of what we hope for, and being certain of what we don’t see.

Do you believe in God even though you don’t see God? Do you believe Jesus Christ was the Word made flesh and he walked the Earth and died on the cross for our sins? Do you believe that faith in Jesus is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6)?

Some people have no faith in God and believe in evolution, and it’s even being taught in schools. If you think about it, how can the world come from nothing? How can anything come from nothing? That’s what evolution says, that something can come from nothing. Look at everything in the world; it always comes from something. Rain comes from clouds; clouds come from the world’s water,

the world’s water comes from rain, etc. God is the creator of all things, and that’s all there is to it. You can deny the obvious if you want, but to us Christians, it is clear God, our Heavenly Father, created everything. You can choose to believe a lie and deny Jesus and say
“He was just a man” and live your life in sin because that’s the “easy” way to live, or you can believe the truth and accept Jesus and live the real EASY way to live,
with peace of mind and God’s blessings. Now that doesn’t mean this life won’t be hard at times, but it’s sure a lot easier to live your life with God on your side. If God’s on your side, which can be against you (Romans 8:31)?

When we sin, we feel like we did something very wrong. We feel very sorry and never want that feeling ever again. After you sin, remember that sorry feeling you have and think to yourself “Wouldn’t it be horrible if I had this feeling again?” This world is filled with evil influences, and we need to block out those influences and take control of our sins so we can please God. Just look at the difference in T.V. shows nowadays, it went from Leave It to Beaver, and The Wonder Years to almost every show, and even commercials having sworn, and all kinds of inappropriateness. No man knows when the end times will come (Matthew 24:36), but the end times sure do seem like there getting closer and closer. We need to put our spiritual armor on and stand against the Devil (Ephesians 6:10-18).

If you want to be more like Jesus, you must always stay strong and never lose faith. Before Jesus was on the cross, he knew after his crucifixion he would be in Heaven with God the Father

. Do you know that you will be in Heaven with God the Father after this earthly life? To stay strong in our faith we should follow Jesus’s example. Jesus taught us never to judge (Matthew 7:1-5). Never judge a person because you don’t know that person’s heart, only God knows everything, and you are a human, and you don’t know everything, so don’t judge. You should discern who to associate with but never judge. If you can discern that someone will negatively affect you or cause you to stray, you should strengthen your faith before venturing an association with that individual. You can associate with a non-Christian if you are allowing the Spirit to work through you to glorify God and witness to them. Jesus also teaches us in Matthew 5:9 that the peacemakers are blessed. Are you a peacemaker? God wants us to be kind to each other, so always be kind to others.

Remember, we as Christians, are one body and we all make up the body of Christ (Romans 12:4-5). God has given us all different gifts (Romans 12:6) to do his works. We all have different jobs to do to please our Heavenly Father. Don’t ever be jealous because someone has more talent than you in something you want to be talented at. We each have our job to do as Christians.

So you want to be more like Jesus? Read God’s word. Study God’s word and learn more and more about Jesus everyday, so you can have peace of mind and be the best Christian you can be. Reading the Bible strengthens us. Even if you don’t feel like reading the Bible push you to read the Bible and ignore those negative thoughts. Reading the Bible will make you stronger and feel better.

When you read the Bible, it makes our Father very happy. He loves you, and you are very important to him. Let’s show God how much we love him and how grateful we are by obeying his commandments and being like Jesus. Remember you can make a list of your sins and keep track of the progress if you feel that will help you. Remember that Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and we are his flock. It is like the Parable of the Lost Sheep in Matthew 18:12-14 and Luke 15:3-7. If you stray from our Father and seek his forgiveness, you will receive forgiveness. Truly there will be much rejoicing in Heaven for your salvation. May God bless you all that are trying hard to be more like our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ.
